Banos Ecuador

Baños is a small peaceful city, located at an altitude of 1800 meters (5970 ft.) at the skirts of the Tungurahua volcano which is 5000 meter (16500 ft.) high. Its pleasant sub tropical climate (average temperature round about 18 Celcius or 65 F) and its extraordinary landsacape and vegetation are very welcoming. Baños is the "door" to the Amazon rain forest. Although the city has a small population of about 20000, it has plenty tourist information, all you need also in English.

This quaint Andean town is surrounded by hills and volcanos and has hot spring waters, thus the name "Baños", which means "showers" in spanish. In the last years, Baños became an important ecotourism destination. Nature lovers and hikers discover a unique spot. Baños offers bicycle, motorcycle an horse rentals, as well as trekking, canyonning, and rafting. Rafting is exciting as the river begins to widen on its way toward the great Amazonas River.
