San Pedro de Atacama

San Pedro de Atacama is located in the II Region of Chile, the most arid desert in the world, the Atacama Desert. The archeological caital of Chile is located 2438 meters above sea level at the base o fthe High Lands, at the basin of the San Pedro River (the biggest river to reach teh Atacama salt lake). This basin borders to the West with the Domeyko Mountain Range, and to the East with the Andes mountain range or the Puna de Atacama pre High Plateau.

The main settlement of San Pedro de Atacama is constituted by descendants of the Lican Antai or Atacamanean ethnicity, influenced by the customs of ancestors (Inca and Spanish). Visiting the San Pedro de Atacama Desert I recommend to take along summer clothing to wear during the day (cotton sports shirts of T-Shirts), as well as winter clothing to wear at night (polar, pants coat and hat etc.). Bring also boots and walking shoes to be set for the Desert.
